<title>Children in Need 2011	</title>

<title>School Disco</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>We had our first school disco of the year this week. Everyone had&nbsp;a lovely evening&nbsp;dancing to the music, eating sweets and enjoying hotdogs. Both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 filled the dance floor showing off their moves. We are all looking forward to the next one.</p>]]></description>

<title>Harvest Festival</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>We celebrate Harvest Festival every year, we always have an assembly and collect food to be given to people who are less well off than ourselves. This year we collected food&nbsp;but we were set&nbsp;a&nbsp;challenge of who could create the longest snake made with the food they had collected in their class. Our winners were Miss Swepsons&nbsp;class who's snake measured 10 and a half meters. It was a very close competition.&nbsp;Well done to Miss Swepsons class.&nbsp;</p>]]></description>

<title>Year 5 and 6 Cinema Trip</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>This week is National Schools Film Week and years&nbsp;5 and&nbsp;6 were&nbsp;able&nbsp;to go&nbsp;the Cinema today to see the film,&nbsp;The Zoo Keeper. It was a very funny film and we all had a fantasic time. For some of us it was our first ever trip to the Cinema. We all enjoyed our trip out and hope to be lucky enough to be able to go again next year.</p>]]></description>

<title>Macmillan Coffee Morning	</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>On Friday the 30th of September the whole of Highlees school held&nbsp;a huge&nbsp;coffee&nbsp;morning in support of the Macmillan Nurses.&nbsp;Every class&nbsp;made cakes to be sold in their classroom.&nbsp;The Teachers and the Kitchen Staff made cakes to be sold in the large hall. In total we raised &pound;317 from the Macmillan Coffee Morning. Well done and thank you&nbsp;to everyone who helped&nbsp;us to do so well.&nbsp;</p>]]></description>

<title>Peterborugh Film Awards	</title>

<description><![CDATA[<div dir="ltr"><font size="2" face="tahoma">On Tuesday 12th July children from years 3 and 4 attended the Peterborough Children's&nbsp;Film Awards at Kingsgate. We all got dressed up in our best suits and dresses. We were very, very excited! Some of us were lucky enough to be&nbsp;interviewed on the red carpet! As we went to our seats (in the front row!) we could see lots of other children from different schools in Peterborough. The atmosphere was fantastic! Before the ceremony started we watched a video message from Dick and Dom from In Da Bungalow. They made everyone shout bogies really, really loudly. Even the adults had to do it!&nbsp;All of us&nbsp;had a absolutly fantastic night. We were lucky enough to win three trophies! Well done Highlees!</font></div>]]></description>

It's quite an exciting time for all of us, as the whole school wants to see them hatch. Each class went to visit the chicks and see how they were growing and changing. We&nbsp;all took turns&nbsp;to hold the fluffy chicks.</p>]]></description>

<title>Playground Party</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>To celebrate the Royal Wedding our whole school had a Playground Party. Each class brought in some treats to share, and we all sat on the grass and had a giant picnic together. It was a lovely afternoon and a lovely way to start the Summer Term. Every class worked very hard finding out lots of information about Prince William, Kate Middleton and the Royal Family.</p>]]></description>

They had a great time seeing all the animals on the farm. They had even more fun rolling down the hill and playing on the tractor.</p>]]></description>

The children all held a rabbit, a Snake, an African Snail, a Rat, a Giant Millipeed and a Hissing&nbsp;Cockroach. We all had to wash our hands before lunch!</p>]]></description>

She had some fantastic experiments to show us. We learnt all about sound waves, how sound travels, how electricity travels and what makes a good conductor. We all really enjoyed her visit and took some of her ideas back to our classrooms.</p>]]></description>

We have had a bedtime story&nbsp;told while we wore our pyjamas, cuddled our teddies&nbsp;and drank hot chocolate. It has been a very busy week each class presented a piece&nbsp;from their classes chosen book in assembly on friday to show what they have been doing in class this week.</p>]]></description>

All the classes had been holding auditions throughout the week,&nbsp;they entered&nbsp;their favourite act into the final. The Children all enjoyed showing off their dancing abilities and we enjoyed watching them. This year it was the year 5 girls who won. Well done Girls.</p>]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<p>We have been fund raising for a new Stage area in the large hall, each Friday a year group will sell a selection of items on the playgroud at break time. So far this term we have sold iced biscuits, ice poles and we have even had a lucky dip stall. The total for our fund raising has now reached &pound;834.35p. Well done children.</p>]]></description>

This year we managed to raise &pound;291.00 for <a href="/gallery/default.asp?pid=3">Children In Need&nbsp;</a>and the total is still growing! Year 6 did a fantastic job organising games and stalls in the hall for us all to enjoy. Year 4 made iced biscuits to sell on the Key Stage 2&nbsp;playground, Year 2 made chocolate rice crispy cakes to sell on the Key Stage 1 playground.&nbsp; Well done to everyone and a big thank you for all your help.</p>]]></description>

So we had someone come in to school to show us&nbsp;some Instruments and&nbsp;tell us all about them. All our classes had a session booked and really enjoyed trying out the Instruments and finding out&nbsp;all about them. We had a whole school assembly where the children showed the adults how to play these Instruments. <description><![CDATA[<p>We celebrated our Merit Asssembly on the 16th of July 2010. Every teacher gave out three awards to their class. It was wonderful to see so many children doing so well in their learning. Mrs Platts gave out the Head Teachers Award to a pupil in year 6 who had no idea the award was for him. We would like to a say a very big well done to all the children who recieved certificates.</p>]]></description>

<title>Hunstanton Trip Year 1	</title>

We visited the Sea Life Centre in Hunstanton and sat in the tunnel underneath the Sharks. It was a&nbsp;great day, we had a picnic lunch on the grass and an afternoon on the beach collecting interesting shells and making sandcastles.</p>]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<p>Once a half term we have a <a href="/gallery/default.asp?pid=3">Friday Fun Day</a>, where the children can choose an activity to do on the Friday afternoon. There were loads of different activities to choose from, some children did Tie Dye&nbsp;or&nbsp;made Chinese Dragons or did some Cooking. Others played Football or Outside Games. All the children who took part had a wonderful afternoon.</p>]]></description>

<title>Sing up at the Cathedral</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>Highlees Primary School was asked to take part in the Sing Up at the Cathedral Concert this month. 40 pupils from Highlees went to the concert. They joined other schools form Peterborough and they all sang together. It was a very&nbsp;enjoyable evening.&nbsp;Well done to all the children who took part.</p>]]></description>

<title>Music Week	</title>

We had a singer come in to give us lessons, a Digital Recording Artist to record our classes work and an African Drumming Artist who taught us how to play the&nbsp;African Drums. We all&nbsp;had a fabulous week.</p>]]></description>

<title>Airport Day	</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>On Tuesday the 2nd of February everybody went on <a href="/gallery/default.asp?pid=3">holiday!</a>&nbsp; Each class in school had to remember to take their passport and&nbsp;pick up their tickets to go to another country. Every teacher oganised an activity and spoke about the traditions and customs related to their favourite country. We all had a really interesting day.</p>]]></description>

<title>Haiti Earthquake Appeal	</title>

So today on the 29th of January we&nbsp;have had&nbsp;a 'Dress Down Day'. Which means no School Uniform, and we have raised &pound;268.40. Well done everyone.&nbsp;Thank You.</p>]]></description>

<title>H Factor</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>On our last day of term before Christmas, we held our <a href="/gallery/default.asp?pid=3">H Factor Final.</a> It was a really great way to end the year. All the children who took part were a pleasure to listen to, everyone really enjoyed their performances. We even had a special guest, Nicloe Lawrence who had appeared on the &nbsp;X Factor. Our winner really deserved to win he sang brilliantly.&nbsp; Well done to everyone who took part.</p>]]></description>
